MAT Leaders National Conference

Network Flyer: Forum Strategy MAT Leaders network North West 2019

What’s involved?

The North West network enters its third year in 2019 and is developing a strong reputation as a supportive and developmental forum for those leading academy trusts. The network is one of our five regional #MATLeaders networks operating in the UK and involving dozens of CEOs.

The network brings together leading thinkers, experts, and a wide-range of practitioners across sectors, to ensure leaders’ ongoing professional development and learning.  In 2017/18 contributors included leading corporate governance experts, NHS Improvement, Ofsted, CEOs from other sectors, entrepreneurs from the world of business, and researchers.

This year’s network will again provide a wide range of development and networking opportunities – as well as the chance to inform policy development through our regular roundtables. The network will be led by the founder of our five regional networks, Michael Pain, who is CEO of Forum Strategy and former Head of Policy at the National College for Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services.

What will this year’s networks focus on?

Last year’s networks covered areas such as the relationship between the Chair and CEO, recruitment and becoming an employer of choice, enabling a culture for improvement at scale; as well as updates on policy and research of relevance to CEOs in the third and public sector. This year’s session will include:

Session 1: 5th February 2019 – Liverpool

The changing role of CEO: how the role is evolving in an era of growing complexity, austerity and new technologies. What can we learn from other sectors?

Session 2: 16th May 2019 – Manchester

The role of research and innovation in a self-improving multi-academy trust. How does the CEO create the culture for learning at all levels?

Session 3: 26th September 2019, Midlands

Session 4: 21st November 2019, Sheffield (together with Yorks & Humber Network):

Franchising models and the balance between autonomy and standard operating procedures – lessons from business and industry.
